Burning Man 2005

We arrived at Black Rock City around 10am Monday, 29 August, amidst moderate dust storms. (The playa is arid on the best of day, and cars and trucks crushing up the top layer turns it to a nice, powdery surface that the winds easily carry.) When we arrived, winds were at 15-20 miles an hour. Our departure was far more mild, around 10:45pm on Sunday, 4 September.

And if you wonder why it's not recommended to bring your own car, see the before and after of our rental (it was cleaned thoroughly before being returned, of course).

Turning off the highway, we began the several mile journey into Black Rock City. Stopping at the ticket and inspection station, we hung out as the RV got shaken-down. From our camp at 5:28 and Bipolar, we could see the dust devils kicking up on the playa.

We joined the queue of cars leaving around 10:45pm Sunday night. Hard to see, but from the highway we saw a gigantic snake of white headlights, all leaving BRC. Just five miles from Interstate 80, we were delayed 30 minutes for a traffic collision. Ouch...
