The burning of the Man, a wooden edifice of about 40 feet perched on
the top of a third story maze (this year was a Psyche theme, hence the
maze). On Saturday night of the week of Burning Man, the Man is set on
fire after a celebration of people, dance, and fire. This is a central
event of the Burning Man experience, and one that draws the majority of
the citizens of Black Rock City into the playa and around the Ring of
Light.
During the week, the Man stood sentry above a 30-room maze.
The same maze, and the Man -- just further away.
The maze is removed as the man is prepared for the burn.
This is the last sunrise the Man will see; tonight, he burns.
The Man is illuminated by neon throughout the week.
As the celebration begins, the Man raises his arms skyward.
