Adelaide River is a little town of 280 people or so, about an hour's drive south of Darwin along the Stewart Highway. The route here is peppered with small airstrips (after the first Japanese air raid in early 1942, the strips and planes were scattered about). Adelaide River also hosts the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the final resting place of many of those who died as a result of those air raids. |
