The city is huge. Consider you're packing in over a quarter of
a million people (40% of the state's population) into one community.
Add to it there isn't a huge limitation of land -- it's almost as easy
to grow outward as it is to build upward. Include that people like
to shop at Wal-Mart,
and you've got yourself Anchorage.
This is nice, isn't it? Much prettier,
too, than the welcome
sign in the airport.
From the airport looking toward town, only
a few buildings are tall enough to be seen from afar...
... for that matter, from a-near.
Contributing to the mosquitoes population
is the many ponds, but they are quite pretty to see.
"Northern Lights" is a fairly
common phrase out here. I bet people name their kids that, too.
Sunset at 11pm takes some getting used
to. And sunrise at 4:30am as well.
