If you're going to work to put yourself on the map, it may as well be big.  And in Baker, California, the thermometer there is just that.  Big.  The world's largest, standing at 134 feet, it stands as a reminder of the hottest day on record in Death Valley, 134°F in 1913. 

390 people. And we found the school, a laundromat (background) and even some apartments... ... the apartments. Sure, they look like pueblo sorts of residences, but whatever works, right? Today, it was just a moderate 92°F.  Not bad, considering it was only 11am or so.
The reason we stayed at Bun Boy Motel -- Arne's Royal Hawaiian Hotel looked under construction. Dinner one night. Run by a Greek, but the rest of the staff is anything but Greek. (Se habla Espanol?) There are some things you humans do that I will never understand, though...
