San Simeon was, and remains, a tiny town that began as the support center
for the Hearst estate (aka Hearst Castle).
Today, it's mostly a wide spot in the road with several hotels and motels,
two markets, a few conventional homes and a handful of the modular variety.
When you can literally slingshot a pebble from anywhere in town,
a some fog is to be expected.
The persistent fog does do some goofy things to metal, and iron
fire hydrants are no exception.
There are two roads running parallel to Highway 1, both home to
a few motels and shops.
By taking a different angle, it looks like there's more markets
here than there are. Really, maybe two.
A guard dog sits perched in its lattice castle, protecting a cherished
heirloom picnic table.
With San Simeon being mashed into the Hearst
estate property, seeing zebras isn't uncommon.
