Richmond is the state capital of Virginia. And on it sits the state capitol buildings. (And yes, today I finally looked up the difference between "capital" and "capitol"... and good thing I did, since it's a bit confusing.)

Despite our first impression, this isn't the state capitol building. Rather... ... this monument announces that the capitol building is right here, and this... ... is what it looks like today. Apparently, we caught it during renovation.
The Virginia War Memorial. The back wall is actually glass, with the names of fallen troops on it. Lurking away from downtown are traces of the tobacco industry, including that of Lucky Strike. Princess Di is painted on the side of the Velvet Gentlemen's Club -- classy place for a princess, eh.
