Founded in 1850 as a city and county, Sacramento existed as an area as
early as 1808, when Spanish soldiers, led by Lt. Gabriel Moraga from Mission
San Jose, discover the Sacramento and American Rivers. Today, those rivers
are still there. Good.
The first census in 1847 showed 22.647 people here; today, it's
a four hundred thousand more.
The state capitol, which has stood here since they began building
it in 1861.
Just a glimpse of Old Sacramento as you'd have seen
it then, minus the cars, color photo, and lack of a working railroad
yard (Southern Pacific Railroad employed 33% of Sacramento workers
in 1910).
