Founded in 1850 as a city and county, Sacramento existed as an area as early as 1808, when Spanish soldiers, led by Lt. Gabriel Moraga from Mission San Jose, discover the Sacramento and American Rivers. Today, those rivers are still there. Good.

The first census in 1847 showed 22.647 people here; today, it's a four hundred thousand more. The state capitol, which has stood here since they began building it in 1861. The California Peace Officers' Memorial, across the street from the capitol building.
Just a glimpse of Old Sacramento as you'd have seen it then, minus the cars, color photo, and lack of a working railroad yard (Southern Pacific Railroad employed 33% of Sacramento workers in 1910). We saw these guys chasing each other; we suggested thee one guy hit the other with a stick. Go us!
