From the shore, you can read and see all sorts of pre-war, World War
II and post-war facts 'n such. The trip to the USS Arizona memorial
was a quick run across the water to the site, and a somber visit before
an equally quick run back to the shore.
It looks rather small from the waiting area on the edge of the harbor,
truth be told.
Boarding the USS Arizona, a rare find: the sunken battleship is
a watery, active military cemetery.
Looking to the sky from within the memorial, the U.S. flag flies
in the crisp morning winds.
Oil still seeps out of the ship, about a quart (0.95 liters) a day,
as seen as puddles on the water.
The names of those who died here during the Pearl Harbor attack,
and those interred here since.
Visible from the site is the USS Missouri. In 1945, it's
where the Japanese formally surrendered.
