Volcano -- aka Volcano Village -- is the last version of a town before
you get into miles of volcanic land and enter the Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park. They have a few fuel pumps, a teeny grocery
store and cafe, and a goodly number of cottages for rent to visiting tourists
(and presumably, ducks).
The post office is always a decent stand-by for signs when there's
no other signs to be had.
A clever revenue stream for this fraternal organization: run the
place as a lodging for tourists.
An artsy sort of sign on the side of the general store, but Kilauea
is just the name - it's here in town.
This is one of the few markets -- next to the sign above -- that
also offers gas along the bit of highway.
The volunteer fire department's one station, complete with a goal
of raising $80K for a fire brush truck.
The area is jam-packed with cute little cottages and houses, many
for rent to the occasional tourist.
