In what Key West, Florida cannot claim,
the REAL southern-most point in the United States -- continental or otherwise
-- likes 13 or so miles off of the highway on the island of Hawaii. At
least until the next island breaks the surface in 3,000 or so years (as
seems to be the estimate for the next one along the volcanic chain to
the south).
Upon approach, I'm greeted with a bunch of defunct windmills, and
a few that are actually working.
Well, that's... yup, a whole lotta ocean. But I guess looking south,
there wouldn't be anything to see.
At land's end, a wooden platform to lower this-n-that, and some
boats below for whatever else.
It seems there's people down there, jumping off the previously mentioned
wooden platform.
I've spared you the horror of photos of the guys jumping into the
water, naked. Ewww.
A random sort of navigation marker, but I guess with a bunch of
water, a warning of land's here.
