The marker on Highway 62 said one mile north. A mile in, we met the two
abandon buildings, leading me to the conclusion that the cemetery is all
that's left of Victory (presumably, a town that sprung up during World
War II, roughly about the time the Altus Air Force Base opened in 1943).
Aside from the highway sign, the cemetery was the only thing bearing
the town name. Telling.
No longer flourishing under the warm Oklahoma sun, I'm afraid.
This appears to have been a depot or service station. It was built
to last, even if the business didn't.
This house still appears to be a home, but I'd guess folks need
to go to Altus (10 mi. away) to shop.
But not all is lost. The cotton crop is thriving amongst the gorgeous
weather.
