We wandered around the downtown, logically, from where we were dropped
off, in the center of the pedestrian mall. Most everyone we met today
apologised for the weather, from the people in the shop where Tubby finished
his shopping, the hotel/resort people, even this old guy who was talking
about the saving powers of Jesus. The climate is also quite similar to
the tropical feeling we had in Darwin.
Dead center of the mall is Hides Corner on one side, and the museum
on the other.
Walking along the path to the ocean, we end up in a public pool
that's just too cute for words.
It's either really low tide, or someone pulled the plug; the water
line is quite low right now.
This building looked all old and important, even like a "wharf",
but in fact it's the bus terminal.
They don't have army surplus stores here -- it's "army disposal"
- but the stuff's all the same.
As we waited for the ride back, we snapped a photo of Hides Corner
with the evening twilight behind it.
