The girl couldn’t sleep but I managed to doze off again, head
tucked under a wing. I swear the room was freezing even though I had
turned the gauge up to 27°C (or 82°F for the Americans amongst
us). |
| 7:50am |
Breakfast now over, it’s time to head north to Florence. I
need to make sure the bus
controls are working properly and that the
luggage is stored correctly. |
| 10:30am |
It took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to clear Rome’s ring road
to basically go 7 kilometers. That put us a little behind schedule
but I’m resting
comfortably. On the drive, I made some new Pals -- Im
and Lida. |
| 11:30am |
Arrived in Orvieto, a little hilltop
town, complete with a big ol' church, pottery shops and a guy that
could be one of the allegedly non-existent homeless guys. |
| 1:50pm |
Back on the autostrada (the freeway) and I got some photos of the
countryside. It's sometimes gray,
but there's occasionally other stuff to look
at. |
| 3:40pm |
And we’re in Florence! |
| 4:15pm |
We walked to the Duomo, Italy’s
biggest church. |
| 5:00pm |
The Piazza
della Signoria is where the statue of David was originally placed.
But when a woman angrily through a chair out the window and damaged
David, he was rushed to a safer, indoor location. The Carabinieri
were near this
statue in the piazza. We also stopped at the Santa Croce church
for a few minutes -- long enough for these
two pictures.

Arrival at the Hotel Mediterrano was met with poor light so photos
will be taken tomorrow of the exterior. Lydia, Rachel and I stayed
in room 449. Interesting bathroom set-up with a strange shower
door. I took a
nap while the girl got ready to go on her dinner excursion…
without me! Even though there are no age limits regarding alcoholic
consumption, the girl’s morals would not allow me to attend
her drinking dinner. |
| 7:45pm |
After Rachel left, I went to the hotel dining
area and had some bread and proscuitto (a pig product). |
| 10:50pm |
The girl got back in so I’ll let her tell of her dining
experience per her request.
Like, it was awesome.
We went too, like, this eating place where they gave me food and
wine. But they call wine "vino". Strange, huh? Cuz it’s
wine! I had this yum-to-my-tum drink that was blue! And it was called
Blu di Blu. I eight and eight and eight. They gave me ravioli with
truffles, penne (it should be like spelled pen-ay though), weird
potato wedges (not like KFC at all, man), a T-bone stake and coca-cola.
It sed .33L on the side of the can. I dunno what that means tho.
It was fun! |
| 11:50pm |
You see why I don’t allow her to write very often. It’s
painful and takes a damn long time. Bedtime for me! |
