Since Parliament moved to Wellington from Auckland around 1864, the buildings
housing the nation's legislative branch have only been ravished by fire
a few times (including once in the 1990s during renovation and fire-proofing
improvements).
Sadly, though, no photos are permitted within Parliament, even on a Saturday,
so our hour-long tour was informative, but not captured on film. If you
were there, though, the buildings essentially appear as they do below,
looking left to right. (And the hour-long tour of the complex is well
worth the time -- and it's free!)
The most distinct building in the complex is the Executive Wing,
better known as "the Beehive."
The Parliament building was built 1912-1922, and retrofitted for
earthquakes in the mid 1990s.
The oldest of the three buildings is the Parliament Library, circa
1899, with various retrofittings since.
