Day 5 - Monday, 26 August 2002

Setting:  Downtown New Orleans; includes the hotel (New Orleans Marriott), the convention center (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center), House of Blues, and Generation Hall.

Today's Cast:

  • We again feature Bill, Robert, Julia, Kathy, Jon, and re-encountered the predictable Bald One.
  • Introducing Denise of California fame.  (I hear she has a Mustang...)
  • Featuring JR Richards from Dishwalla
  • Special guest appearances by Louisiana State Police troopers R. Hyatt and C.P. McClelland

6:48am - We made our way to the conference center using the Adidas mode.  But it was cool enough (even with the muggy weather) where it was a relatively comfortable carry for me (or for the boy, a walk).

7:17am - After a quick breakfast, we're back to the lounge area to sit through the end of the day.  Not a fascinating event, honestly.

12:53pm - The lunch report came in as "not fascinating"; we opted to share a beverage and skip in lieu of a nice dinner.

5:27pm - The strain of the day is beginning to show.  Here, tubby is playing with flashy lights, cupped into his hand, and making a siren noise.  And, giggling like a school girl.  It was very, very creepy.

6:04pm - They shut the place down, and headed up to drop off their stuff and bus back to the hotel.  Tonight's agenda involves a couple of parties thrown by vendors, including one at the House of Blues.  Yeah!

6:44pm - The boy and I arrived in the lobby to wait for the rest of the group.  And wait, and wait.  The others arrived shortly thereafter.

7:04pm - We walked the two blocks or so to the House of Blues.  Upon my arrival, I found they will even serve ducks like me at the bar.  Pretty nice, eh?  (The flash was a bit of a bugger on the photo wash-out of me, though, but it's all for the good of the many.)

7:36pm - We managed to con the House of Blues crew into posing with me.  Aren't they the coolest?

7:39pm - Bill and I are waiting for the band to appear... but after a while, it became apparent it wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

8:04pm - We head down the street to 201, a very nice, small-scale restaurant next door to the House of Blues.  Just being socially conscious, I didn't take any pictures.

9:42pm - We return to the House of Blues and to the band now on stage.  They seem awfully blurry, but that could just be me.

10:19pm - The band pulled up a group of ladies (and another photo here) from the dance floor, including our very own Kathy.  (Hi Kathy!)

10:25pm - The gang on the dance floor at House of Blues.  (From left, Jon, Robert, Bill, Julia, and Kathy.)

10:36pm - We opt to leave the House of Blues and head over to the Generation Hall over in the warehouse district.

10:55pm - There were people dancing.  Although the dance floor wasn't that big, but it was better than plywood with duct tape joining the planks.

10:57pm - They apparently were going to do a balloon drop.  Very nice.  Of course, as fate would have it, we didn't stay long enough to see if it was really for a balloon drop, or just decorations for another day.

11:06pm - I managed to get onto the dance floor at the Crestone party, but was a bit concerned that I may get stepped on.  Fortunately, there weren't too many people on the dance floor, and the music wasn't great, so the risk was minimal.

11:33pm - We returned to the House of Blues to seek out the better of the two parties.

11:34pm - In a stroke of luck, we bumped into J.R. Richards from Dishwalla, seen here with Julia.

11:35pm - It seems the House of Blues' private party hosted by Microsoft and Accenture ends at midnight, and as such, no one was being admitted any longer.

11:37pm - In the process of such, we met two mega-cool Louisiana State Police troopers, R. Hyatt and C.P. McClelland.  We had a long chat with them about all sorts of things from Louisiana, the weather, education plans and other work things.  (Featured in the photo is Kathy, Trooper Hyatt, Julia, Frank, Trooper McClelland, and Denise.)

12:17am - Figuring we've worn out welcome (without getting arrested), we headed back
