Day 11 - Sunday, 1 September 2002

Setting:  New Orleans Garden District (to include Pontchartrain Hotel), Louis Armstrong airport, a Boeing 737, the Denver airport, another 737, and finally the airport at home.

Today's Cast:

  • Pretty boring - just the very trite, infantile, and predictable Bald One.

5:43am - I wake up.  Feeling being awake at this ungodly hour was unfair, I slap Tubby to a state of consciousness with a cold, wet wash cloth.

6:02am - The wake-up call comes through.  'Course, I've made the hotel's efforts unnecessary, but they were a good back-up.

6:14am - We hop into United Cab #300, and bid the driver to get us to the airport.  He was a rather pleasant fellow.  Opting against the air conditioning, we did the Louisiana air conditioning method and rolled down the windows.

6:39am - Ol' #300 arrived at the Louis Armstrong Airport (aka the New Orleans airport, although I'm pretty sure it's outside city limits.)  As we check in, Baldie is sure to claim his mileage from this flight on his newly created Mileage Plus account.  Yup, already 2,000+ actual miles on the account now.

6:53am - After clearing ticketing and security, we arrive just in time to see our plane, a Boeing 737-300, taxi up to the gate from the hangar.

7:18am - Wandering around waiting for Flight 501 to begin boarding at 8:15am, we find the mens' restroom is also open to hommies... again, I'm guessing this is just a case of poor sign authoring and editing.

8:21am - We begin boarding and waiting for the 8:45am departure.

8:32am - I'm not sure if it's the fact the plane is only a third full, or because they're so good, but we departed 13 minutes early.

9:53am - The captain announces that the gate in Denver won't be ready for us until 10:24am (Mountain Time).  We've reduced speed so we don't have to just sit idly on the tarmac in Denver.  That seemed reasonable, I think.

10:16am - We landed early, but didn't sit idle for more than a few minutes.  We were able to get off of United 501 quickly, and from gate 19 to 21 for the flight for the remainder of the trip, it was a very short walk.

10:51am - The flight began boarding, right on schedule.  This pleased me, of course.

11:07am - We left Denver exactly 13 minutes early.  That, too, pleased me.  What didn't please me was Tubby falling asleep for most of the flight home, so we got passed over for our free Pepsi.  Dang.

12:34pm - We landed at our final destination, again, 13 minutes early.  (Yesss!)

12:48pm - We gathered out bags at the Baggage Claim area, and set back off into the sunset...
