I managed to pop into Salem to give it a look see. Built in 1937 after the two previous capital buildings burned down, this one is build of Vermont marble. And contrary to local myth, it's not the tallest building in Salem -- the Methodist Church Building (600 State Street) is the tallest.

From a distance, the building was impressive, but didn't look very capital building-ish.	But upon closer inspection, sure enough, yup, it's the state capital. Go figure.
