The home of the Saturn automobile manufacturer. And, because their
commercials note they're open for their customers to come visit, we figured
we'd descent on the place and see what it's all about. Of course,
given we failed to plan this into the travel itinerary, we didn't have
a reservation for the tour, but given no pictures were allowed (and the
first tour was at 10am, and we got there at 7:30am), it wasn't going to
happen in any case. But we still toured the visitor's center.
Thus, we've established that we're in the
right place, and that they say "Union YES!"
I don't care what the commercials say,
but I didn't learn a lot from this dummy.
Now we're getting somewhere - how they
mold engines. They start with a foam mold...
... dip it in molten steel. The steel
dissolves the foam and takes the shape of the foam...
... to give you an exact replica of the
foam, but with the strength of steel and a consistent result.
Don't believe me? Look at the close
up of the engine, and you can see the foam dimples!
A dual cam 16-valve engine for an automatic
transmission car;
a single cam 8-valve engine for an automatic
transmission car;
and your run-of-the-mill valve head.
But I don't know what any of these do, honestly.
