Despite a late departure -- what's only 90 minutes? -- we finally got
under way of our 500 mile drive from Vancouver to Prince George. Along
a two-lane highway, with a speed of no more than 100 km/h (60 MPH), and
several spots as slow as 50-60 km/h (too slow to calculate, but slow).
The alarm went off. No one seemed
to care except me.
7:04am
The actual stirring from the point of slumber occurs, and a splashing
in the tub is now in order.
7:50am
With the car loaded with luggage and
humans, we are finally on the road, and wandered around Richmond
a bit.
8:09am
We wandered around Vancouver,
in the way that I wander. A generally clean city, but maybe that is
helped, at least in part, by corporate sponsorship for its
graffiti.
9:26am
At long last, we finally left Vancouver,
and headed out
10:17am
With a slowdown in traffic, we soon found out
why. The RV, the RV, the RV is on fire... we don't need no water,
let the mother-truck-er burn. (What? The fire department wasn't there,
not even seen on their way.)
10:21am
Drawn by the silly name, I jumped
off the highway briefly and had a wander around Chilliwack.
11:38am
Surrounded by scenic lookouts, I finally took one. And looked
out.
1:45pm
After consulting the map and figuring
a Kamloops detour of an hour each way wasn't prudent, we just kicked
it at Cache Creek before pushing
forward.
We pulled into Williams
Lake. I wanted a Blizzard, but it occurred to us that we lacked
the Monopoly money that passes for Canadian dollars. We bopped to
the ATM and got CAN$150, and with that, spent CAN$7.47 on Dairy Queen
yum-yums.
4:18pm
Back on the road, with a chocolate chip Blizzard between my wings.
It may be 84 degrees outside, but it was sub-zero on the tips of my
wings.
5:55pm
Nothing special
here. But I put it there for you to peep out anyway.
6:56pm
We arrived in Prince George.
It was a quick wander, but a wander none the less.
7:01pm
Discovering The Gateway, apparently
a shopping area, had red lamp posts and signal poles in the area,
with pink flowers. It wasn't a good color coordination.
7:58pm
Dinner was something new, a place called Red Robin. Although Tubby
had the same thing he always has, so I guess it's only new to one
of us. Our server, Ryan, was quite attentive. He earned a CAN$4 tip
and a Frank smiley-face pen.
8:11pm
We arrived at the local Travelogde,
checked in and were sent to room 318, and I got to do my thing while
Tubby collapsed. (And no, I'm not worried there will be a knock at
the door in a few hours. By the time you've read this, found Prince
George on a map, and drove here, we'll be long gone).
10:49pm
All updates updated, and writing pages written, and posted, that's
that. G'night.
