| 8:57am |
The other half of the dynamic duo of mine finally fell out of bed,
thus, Fat Man and Little Boy were now both ready to face a new day,
minus the incendiary nature of the name originally. |
| 9:25am |
Waiting around the motel room, I figured I'd snap a photo of the
temperature
control gauge in the room... because I thought it was nifty you
can set the how tepid the water is to be. I guess I need to sort out
how hot 42°C and 60°C is before hopping in, though, eh? |
| 9:57am |
We finally got on the road, after we settled the bill. (The phone
charges are NZ$2 to connect, and then so much a minute, but by the
time we were all done with the settling, we only paid out $2 -- Neville
was quite the delightful chap on the counter.) |
| 12:04pm |
Our motor car arrived in Wellington,
circled about the water and harbour areas before parking in the car
part at the hotel (we're in The Bay Plaza Hotel, if you're in the
neighbourhood and want to pop by, third floor, just hop off the lift
and it's the first door on the right). |
| 12:35pm |
All checked in and the luggage in the room, we had a look out the
window to see if we could see the water... nope, but we can see the
car
park quite well. |
| 12:47pm |
We headed out to see what we could find in the downtown/city centre
area. Our first passing was by the Central
Fire Station (passing it twice), although due to refurbishment
activities, leaves only
one engine in the station. |
| 12:58pm |
Whilst out and about, I had the most delightfully
formed ponytail walk by me; so I had to make a photo. |
| 1:01pm |
A building that looks this lovely shouldn't
be plagued with this sort of business, I think. |
| 1:36pm |
At long last, we find the Wellington
Cable Car, the only public cable car in New Zealand. Well worth
the NZ$3.60 roundtrip (known as a "return" here). |
| |
We did a quick walk-about at the Wellington
Botanic Gardens, but were a tad disappointed the Tree House was
a visitors centre, and not a proper tree house. |
| 2:45pm |
We took the cable car back to the city centre / downtown area. |
| 3:04pm |
The trinkles of rain began to fall, but got a bit more steady as
time wore on. |
| 3:11pm |
The restaurant the girl wanted to dine within was found easily enough,
but they don't seem to think it dinner time until 5:30pm, and given
the hour, this just won't do. |
| 3:24pm |
I waited for the remainder of our travel party to peruse some books
in the nearby book shop, so I hung out near the bus island, only to
find that yup, waiting
for the bus the world over is quite a bore. |
| 3:38pm |
We settled for checking into these
chicken wedges at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken to see what
they're all about. They were sufficiently adequate, but nothing to
write home about, thus, mention of it won't appear in any further
writings. |
| 4:24pm |
We headed over to New World supermarket, and wandered about on the
quest for snacks. (Gives you a sense of just how fab that KFC was,
doesn't it?) |
| 4:48pm |
Toting two 1.5 liters of Diet Pepsi, two Nerdalicious, and some
coconut confections in a sack, and with the girl carrying a New Zealand
lotto ticket, we headed back to the hotel. |
| 7:21pm |
Web updates done so far, I elected to post everything I've got to
date, and once done, am toying with wandering about the streets, just
for grins. Grins are good. |
| 7:46pm |
This was just too cool. Down the center of the pedestrian mall were
blue and green blinking
squares. The nearest one is green, another green, then blue, and
you can sort of visually follow the rest of them down the block. |
| 7:57pm |
If your little tyke hasn't realized that the sheep here outnumber
the people 13 to 1, then you should remind them, then give them a
little toy to help them learn those little wool-on-hooves who's
really in charge. |
| 8:36pm |
Survey's back, and the hot spot on a Friday night is along Courtenay
Place. (The specific place varies on whether you're seeing a play,
movie cinema, shopping centre, bar, club, or a dark corner where the
quasi-cool 14-year-old bottle-blondes go to smoke. |
| 8:42pm |
Back in the room, some drying is in order. Whilst we did try to
stick under awnings and overhangs, there were just some areas of rain
exposure that couldn't be helped. |
| 8:55pm |
As the humans elect to numb their minds with reading books and the
interminable Terminator 2, I'm going to go work on a writing project.
Goodnight, New York. |
