| 7:46am |
The first stirrings of human life
began to occur; in the duck kingdom, I've been up for something of
an hour and have less to show for it than the breathing corpses sharing
my room. |
| 8:08am |
A quick look at the weather
report suggests that we're the bearers of the rain, and upon our
departure tomorrow, the weather will become more pleasant. Bummer. |
| 8:14am |
The girl headed off to market, leaving
us to sit about, drink soda, and look at things on the internet. Whee! |
| 10:07am |
With everyone back together, we finally headed out toward the museum,
parliament, and whatever else we could stumble across. |
| 10:29am |
We finally arrived at Te
Papa Museum to see what the place was all about. |
| 11:48am |
Our escape made, we headed across the street to an 'all things wool'
shop, which had some lovely
boots, but that was about the extent of it. We began heading down
toward the parliament complex. |
| 12:03pm |
It's not hiking, mind you, it's "tramping." |
| 12:09pm |
We again walked by one of the many jewelers in the city centre,
and I couldn't help but smile at the window shopper outside. Each
time we've passed this one particular shop (Partridge Jewelers), there
has been only one woman stopped, looking, (coffee cup in hand is optional),
and eyeing the engagement rings. Like visions of sugar plums dancing
in their heads, I wondered if they'd had already had the dream guy
in mind who's giving her that princess cut ring, or if that was just
a minor detail to be sorted out later. |
| 12:15pm |
New Zealand police pretty much all
look
the same, leaving me with the theory that all police services
are run by the national government. The only (slight) variety is the
highway police, which have yellow and blue stripes, instead of the
orange and blue ones. |
| 12:17pm |
Beefcake! Yes kids, it's the Weight
Gain 4000, conveniently packaged in 25 kg drums. (Actual weight
may vary considerably, as we didn't read the label.) |
| 12:42pm |
We arrived a bit early for the hourly
tour of New
Zealand's Parliament, and since camera aren't allowed inside,
I opted to take some pictures from outside. |
| 2:02pm |
Our tour over, we did manage to step outside with Janet,
our tour guide, and she now joins the ranks of the FrankPals family. |
| 2:09pm |
Sybase may not gave a strong market
share globally, but they have a jolly
nice building. |
| 2:22pm |
A brief stop-over was made in McDonald's for snacking food (french
fries, locally referred to as "fries"). |
| 2:53pm |
We popped into the local The Warehouse,
but didn't find any pushpins for Tubby. We did find, however, an opportunity
wherein he could possibly become a part-time
big brother for some lucky lass. |
| 3:13pm |
We're back in the room, although the reasoning for the return was
now moot. After some period of refreshment, we regrouped supplies
and departed for a stroll along the water. |
| 3:55pm |
I guess some people really depend
on the kerb being there when parking their car. |
| 4:16pm |
Drat, no one told us we'd have to take our chair for
a walk when we got it at the pound. |
| 4:42pm |
I've returned to the hotel, but have
some nifty
snaps of our walk. Since my left side was causing bit a bit of
pain, I let his Tubbiness carry me, which worked out pretty well for
all involved (I thought). |
| 7:04pm |
Ah, a bit late, but good news -- there's a new Kit-Kat
Mint Rush. (The Ritz crackers were previously discovered, of course.) |
| 7:27pm |
With The Simpsons over (it
was the Bart Simpson comet coming down to destroy the city), we made
our way out to find food. |
| 7:49pm |
We landed upon an Italian restaurant where the request for an alfredo
sauce substitution was looked at as though we were from Venus, and
this was Mars. And, when the order landed on the table, my best guess
was the dish arrived from Pluto. |
| 9:02pm |
Back in the room where it's warm and
cozy, and there's more more mediocre Italian food being foisted about.
Nay, I'm now just munching on sourdough pretzels and some semi-flat
Diet Pepsi. And it's still a better offering, I think. |
| 9:08pm |
Much to my surprise, I got sucked into watching American
Pie on channel 3. Furthering the surprise, they're showing the
unrated version. That poor pie never had a chance. |
| 10:26pm |
With the movie over, and my little
writing homework done for the day, I'm going to curl up under a down
blanket (how's that for irony) and go sleepy-sleepy. |
